During the period November 15 – 17, 2010, six Grayhawk employees attended and successfully completed the written and practical examinations for Competent Rigger Level I/Level II and the Qualified Signalperson Training.  The training was provided by the Rigging Institute which is headquartered in Knoxville, TN.

The training covered basic to advanced rigging applications and prepared the riggers to safely perform Level 1 and Level 2 rigging activities.

The Rigger Certification individuals were trained to:

  • Recognize common sling hitch types.
  • Calculate tensions based on sling angles of symmetric and non-symmetric loads.
  • Conduct pre-use inspections that are utilized to determine if a sling is safe to use.
  • Determine headroom limitations and load weights.
  • Select the safest and most efficient slings and hardware for a job.

The Certified Signal Person Training individuals were trained to:

  • Prepare the student to meet the requirements of OSHA 29 CFR 1926.1400.
  • Use the proper methods to confidently communicate with the crane operator of mobile, tower and overhead cranes.
  • Utilize proper hand and voice communications.
  • Understand crane functions and limitations, suspended personnel platforms and working near overhead power lines.

Grayhawk employees who successfully completed the training were J.R. White, Larry Hakes, Kathy Coffey, Clyde Brown, Eddie Galloway and Manuel Ponce.
